It can be har adirondack rock climbingd to find a belay partner on short notice- one of the goals for this group is for members to be able to see if anyone is getting out climbing."

Meet Taylor Smith, the new Climbing Manager of The Crux - Champlain Valley Climbing Center. A recent graduate from St. Lawrence University, Taylor was actively involved with the school's outing club and served as Vice President his senior year.  During that time, he also worked at the university's climbing center and served as a guide for the outdoor program.  He also has a long history of working with The Crux, through Pok-O-MacCready Camps.

Taylor has acted as the Climbing Specialist for Pok-O-MacCready Camps for two years, during which time he has introduced hundreds of summer campers to the art and joy of rockclimbing. In addition to establishing an excellent training program at our indoor climbing facility, he has also lead outdoor climbing trips in the Adirondacks for the summer camp.

Taylor has recently returned to the United States from India, where he completed an internship to compliment his degree in Environmental Studies. Over the course of several months abroad, he collected research data for a local NGO, working with local farmers to establish financial and logistical solutions for community agriculture ventures.

We're glad to welcome him back!  Not only will Taylor be managing The Crux during its public season, but he'll also be working with the Pok-O-MacCready Outdoor Education Center to further develop their climbing program.  Pok-O-MacCready campers will be excited to welcome him back to the summer camp staff again for the upcoming season, too!

What are you waiting for?

Visit us at The Crux and get to know Taylor and the rest of our awesome staff!

Movember, Mo'Climbing!

Don't know what 'Movember' is?  Go to to find out about this unique charitable cause.

Have you heard all the buzz about 'Movember'?  It's a great global cause which helps raise awareness about men's health issues.  Help us celebrate "movember" and join us for GUYS NIGHT...November 19th...where MEN CLIMB for FREE!  If you need to rent climbing equipment, just flash us your 'mo, and we'll lend it to you free of charge!  We'll be collecting donations for the Movember Foundation...they work with the Prostate Cancer Foundation and the LIVEStrong Foundation to fund research for men's health initiatives.  SUGGESTED DONATION:  $10 per person.  And remember:  Don't Mo' it alone!  Bring your friends!

Want more information?  Here's some:

"Men’s health is an international effort designed to raise awareness and funds for men’s health issues and research initiatives. In order to make a difference, we need your help. Many Movember ‘Mo-Bros’ pledge to grow a moustache for the month of November and by changing their appearance, they raise vital awareness and funds for men’s health, specifically prostate and testicular cancer initiatives.

We are asking you to help support this cause by making a donation. The size of the donation isn’t important, every little bit helps Movember continue its funding of world-class programs.

To highlight the importance of Movember, please take a look at these statistics:

• 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime

• This year 242,000 new cases of prostate cancer will be diagnosed

• This year 8,290 men will be diagnosed with testicular cancer

If you’d like to help change these statistics, please donate to the Movember cause by:

As some of you may know, the Crux is only open seasonally and is about to close on May 14th. But don't distress! There's still plenty of time to Climb the Crux! In fact, we even have a new feature to explore! Look below to see us building our newest addition! The new feature is a crack that will have a textured inside and holds along the outside.

For more photos of the new element check out the new album on our facebook page!

To celebrate the completion of the crack and the end of our season we will be giving away one free climbing pass to each of our email subscribers! So, if you're not already on our mailing list, make sure to sign up on the contact page of our website to receive the climbing voucher and keep up to date on our future deals!
